This product only claims to have one active ingredient: CoQ10, an enzyme naturally produced by the body. Over time, however, CoQ10 is produced is smaller amounts. It has multiple health benefits, but NOW Solutions claims to use it to improve the elasticity of the skin and improve damage and flaws.
As a serum, it is more concentrated, and is meant to be used after the cleanser and toner, and before the moisturizer. The CoQ10 line uses this enzyme as the primary ingredient in each product, which makes us wonder what this enzyme is and if it is capable of producing the results claimed.
CoQ10 has been proven to be effective in the treatment of lines around the eyes when used for an extended period of time. In addition to this, it has been shown to be effective in permeating the skin, since the molecules are extremely small.
The only problem is that it’s unclear how much of the enzyme is needed to be effective. This serum contains 1% CoQ10, which does not seem like much, but because the ingredient is largely untested, we can’t determine if it is enough to be effective.
Price and Availability
For 1oz of NOW Solutions CoQ10 Antioxidant Serum, you will pay around $13 – $17 depending on the retailer you purchase from. This makes it a very affordable product, as it is meant to be used in spot-treatment, rather than in overall skin health. In other words, if you have wrinkles around your eyes or mouth, only use the serum in these areas.
We weren’t able to find any physical stores that sell CoQ10 Antioxidant Serum, which means that it needs to be purchased online. Because of this, the price will increase a bit depending on the shipping and handling charge.
This is a challenging product to review. First, it seems to be effective and also has been proven to do what it claims. Clinical studies are always reassuring, as long as they are credible.
Second, however, there is the question of whether or not it contains enough CoQ10 to be effective. This is particularly important because this serum does not contain any other ingredient that could help the skin. Other than the CoQ10, it is basically water and aloe Vera. It is a cheap product, about $12 an ounce, so it may be worth a try, but we can’t promise it will be effective.
