Abyssine Cream

product image

Manufactured by the well known company Kiehl’s, Abyssine Cream has the backing of the idea of a company that has been around for 150 years. They claim it will minimize the common signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles and reduce free radical damage which may be contributing to further wrinkles. Kiehl’s does provide a wide range of products. But it could easily be said that spreading themselves so thin, they have forgotten the basic concepts that they used to start their company 150 years ago.

Price: $42.00/50ml bottle

Product Details:

As far as we can tell, Abyssine Cream includes water, cyclohexasiloxane, glycerin, apricot, cetyl alcohol, cyclopentasiloxane, corn starch, petroleum, glyceryl stearate, potassium cetyl phosphate, PEG-40 stearate, sorbitan tristearate, beeswax, dimethiconol phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, capryl glycol, palmitoyl hydrolyzed wheat, arginine, tocopherol, gingko biloba, adenosine, hydrolyzed soy, alteromonas ferment extract, algae extract, and frila.

But good luck actually figuring out a full ingredients list in order. On the main website, they blow up certain sections of the ingredients list, but never actually just put it out there as a whole and simple formula. In the ingredients they do disclose, there is an exfoliator, otherwise known as apricot. However, the rest of the ingredients really have no application to wrinkle care and reduction of the common signs of aging. It seems like they are trying to provide information without actually providing information, if that makes sense. It is an all too common problem with wrinkle products unfortunately. But they could’ve provided their strongest ingredients, or maybe they have.

Overall Impression of Abyssine Cream

From what we can see, Abyssine Cream could make a mediocre exfoliator and a half way descent moisturizer. However, in terms of its application to anti aging, there is nothing to indicate that it would promote the growth of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, or other elements that decline with age and regenerate the skin. The problem that we often find with companies that have been around as long as Kiehl’s is that they don’t actually change the basic formula and types of ingredients from those that they used 150 years ago or however many years ago that they started, despite various developments in technology and innovations.
