Have you ever woken up after a long night and you dragged yourself into the bathroom only to realize that there’s a zombie staring back at you in the mirror? We’ve all been there. It’s not even Halloween, but for some reason you look like you spent last night in a coffin, rather than a bed. The good news is that you don’t have to live with these dark circles any longer!
By following these simple steps, you can return to the land of the living and never look back.
1. Understand why you get dark circles before attempting to fix them
There are many cures for under eye circles. To get the best results, you need to pair the remedy with the cause. Dark circles can be caused by allergies, gluten intolerance, lack of sleep, sinus or nasal congestion, genetic pigment irregularities, excessive sun exposure, age, alcohol, caffeine, smoking and many more things. If you monitor your dark circles, you may be able to figure out when and why you get them.
2. Try a natural remedy
Natural remedies are usually the most affordable and gentle. Try applying some cucumber slices, refrigerated tea bags, or ice cubes wrapped in a cloth to your closed lids. They will reduce puffiness and invigorate the skin.
3. Use a chilled spoon
Put a spoon in the freezer for 10-15 minutes and then cover your eyes with it. This can help relax the blood vessels in and around the eyes.
4. Get that beauty sleep
Science is not quite sure why a lack of sleep causes dark circles. It could be that lying down for a several hours helps your eyes and face get more blood flow, which is always helpful.
Most adults usually need around 7-9 hours of sleep a night, but this amount changes throughout your life. If you have trouble catching those z’s, it might be because you are getting an insufficient amount of Vitamin B6, minerals, Calcium or Magnesium. All of these contribute to a healthy sleep cycle.
5. Cosmetic solutions
If all else fail, you can use a cosmetic to cover up your dark circles. There are many under-eye creams that have Vitamin K, retinol and concealer. Warm up your skin with a little warm water, before you put a concealer on. This will help open your pores so your skin can absorb all the good ingredients in the creams.
6. Focus on that under-eye
There are a lot of things we can do to prevent our eyes from getting so aggravated throughout the day. Try not to rub your eyes and wear dark sunglasses when you go out into the sun. If all of these precautions are fruitless, make sure you use an under-eyes treatment for your sags and bags, rather than just using a normal wrinkle cream.
7. Quit smoking
You’ve seen the ads. Smoking kills. Not can smoking be fatal, but it’s going to make you look like you’re already dead as it makes your blood vessels appear more prominent and bluer.
8. Relax!
Stress doesn’t just take its toll on us mentally and emotionally. It can really do damage on your body; especially thin skin under your eyes. Take a second to meditate, do yoga, or anything else that relaxes you. You’ll not only feel better, but you’ll look better too.
